This study examines one of the most significant structural transformations in contemporary international politics, namely the phenomenon of power transition and the strategic competition between the United States, as the established hegemonic power, and China, as the emerging global power. The central research question investigates how the multidimensional rivalry between these two actors—encompassing geopolitical, economic, technological, and institutional dimensions—has challenged the liberal international order and shaped the future trajectory of global governance. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical methodology grounded in the theoretical frameworks of Power Transition Theory and the Thucydides Trap. The findings demonstrate that the ongoing rivalry extends far beyond a conventional trade dispute; rather, it represents a contest over the redefinition of international norms and institutions, as well as the pursuit of strategic supremacy in critical domains such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technologies, and other emerging technologies. While the United States seeks to preserve the existing liberal international order through the reinforcement of traditional alliances and established institutions, China endeavors to promote a more multipolar international order by advancing initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and establishing parallel international institutions that reflect its own developmental and governance preferences. Structured into eight thematic sections, this research explores the various dimensions of Sino–American strategic competition, ranging from disputes in the South China Sea to the emerging technological Cold War. The study concludes that the international system is entering an era characterized by fragmented multilateralism, in which competing institutional arrangements increasingly coexist. The consequences of this power transition extend beyond shifts in the military balance of power to encompass profound transformations in global supply chains, international trade, technological governance, and energy security. Ultimately, the future international order is likely to oscillate between two principal scenarios: intensified strategic confrontation and competitive coexistence, each carrying distinct strategic implications for secondary and middle powers within the evolving international system.
